Tennessee Agriculture Literacy Week

Growing Agricultural Understanding, One Story at a Time
Agriculture is a part of everyone's life—from the food we eat and the clothes we wear to the communities we call home. Tennessee Agriculture Literacy Week is an opportunity to help students and communities better understand where these products come from and the people, places, and processes behind them.
Each year, volunteers, teachers, agricultural professionals, community organizations, and others come together to promote agricultural literacy through books, classroom visits, and engaging educational activities.
During Agriculture Literacy Week, participants are encouraged to visit classrooms, libraries, homeschool groups, community centers, and other learning environments to share the story of agriculture.
How Can You Participate?
Anyone interested in helping others learn about agriculture can participate in Tennessee Agriculture Literacy Week!
Volunteer Readers
Visit a classroom or other learning environment and read an agriculture-themed book to students. Share your experiences, bring agriculture to life, and help students make connections between the story and the world around them.
Teachers & Educators
Bring agricultural literacy into your classroom by participating in Agriculture Literacy Week and providing students with opportunities to learn more about agriculture, or invite a volunteer reader to your classroom.
Agricultural Professionals & Farmers
Share your knowledge and experiences with students through reading, classroom visits, demonstrations, or hands-on activities.
Community Organizations & Groups
Partner with local schools, libraries, homeschool groups, community centers, or other organizations to provide agricultural literacy opportunities in your community.

$50 Gift Card - Volunteer Readers
Adult and student volunteer readers who participate in Agriculture Literacy Week and complete the Volunteer Reader Form are eligible to be entered to win a $50 gift card.

$100 Gift Card - Teachers
Teachers who participate in Agriculture Literacy Week, invite a volunteer reader to their classroom, and complete the Teacher Form are eligible to be entered to win a $100 gift card.

$250 Award - Group Participation
Organizations or groups (e.g., FFA, 4-H, Farm Bureau Women, etc.) participating in Agriculture Literacy Week can document their coordinated efforts and activities to be eligible to receive a $250 award. A minimum of five awards will be presented in 2026.

Make Your Visit Meaningful
A great agricultural literacy experience goes beyond reading a book. Consider bringing agricultural products, photographs, tools, or other hands-on materials to help students explore what they're learning.
From planting seeds and learning about farm animals to discovering how food travels from the farm to the table, simple activities can make agriculture engaging and memorable for learners of all ages.
Whether you're visiting one classroom or coordinating activities throughout your community, every story shared helps grow agricultural understanding.
